Please remember, the Owl Populations Lab is homework (Canvas) tonight! We will all turn it in as a class as part of our science starter.
Sample data AND a guidance video is posted in yesterday's blog post!
Great work today finishing the mid-year benchmark and the Owl Lab.

Students did an amazing job on their mid-year science benchmark today! We will be completing it in class on Thursday.
DUE FRIDAY "Owl Population Lab" on Canvas. Please be ready to TURN IT IN Friday morning. Below is some sample classroom data if you didn't get it all an instructional video to help you through it. What a fun day today, Carroll students!
We used a modelling activity to simulate an ecosystem of owls and mice. Tomorrow we will finish our data collection and begin our analysis questions. Please be prepared tomorrow to work hard so that we can get as much done in our class as possible! All of the content of this lesson can be found on our Carrying Capacity page on MumleyScience! Have a great Monday night! Hello Carroll 8th Graders and Families,
Today in class we completed some notes on carrying capacity, and density dependent/independent factors. Tomorrow we will take a closer look at how biotic and abiotic factors influence populations through an interactive activity. Please feel free to visit the Mumley Carrying Capacity page if you missed class today or need a better understanding of the content we covered. There is no homework tonight! Hello Carroll students and families, Today students completed the "Ecosystem Pre-Assessment" to see where they fall before we dive into the world of ecology! If students scored a 5/5 on questions within a given standard then they will automatically be moved to an exceeding activity tomorrow. After the pre-assessment we looked at the "Mystery of Easter Island" article to see how humans have an incredibly powerful impact on our ecosystems. Homework
**We will be starting class on Tuesday with a discussion about the article so please come prepared.** Welcome back students! I hope you had a restful Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I came across this incredible video of Dr. King answering a reporters questions so I thought I'd include it in today's blog.
CHECK-IN REVIEW EDITION
Tomorrow in science, students will be completing our FINAL competency check-in of the year! It will be a multiple choice question test (for meeting) and a few short answers (for exceeding). Please see the review guide below: Learning Targets
Check-In Review
If you feel comfortable and confident with these concepts then you will easily demonstrate meeting the competency. Today was a weird day!
Students took a 3 hour reading assessment so that their teachers can get a better feel for where they are at AND to prepare them for the EOG at the end of the year. As a result, classes were only 35 minutes long which we used to take a pre-assessment designed to inform our review day tomorrow. Our last check-in of the year is on Thursday which will cover evolution! Can you believe we're almost halfway through! Keep up the good work students. Mr. Mumley We're almost halfway! In fact, Thursday marks the end of the first semester which means we'll be over halfway by next week. Crazy how fast time flies each year in school!
Today in class students took their Fossils Check-in so that we could see where they are at before Q2. Scores will be available by tomorrow. We also reviewed important vocabulary for the Evolution unit and played Quizlet Live. Homework None Tomorrow We will review the concepts surrounding evolution and begin our preparations for Thursday's check-in! Happy Friday all!
Today we continued working on our stations that look at the evidence for evolution. Our learning targets are as follows:
Students finished Station 1, and continued at station 2 and station 5. Please be sure that you are complete through station 2 before Monday! HW Finish Station 1 and Station 2 Reminder: Evolution test will be on Thursday January 17th |
